Connected Finland’s IoT network already has 120,000 devices and interfaces – the technology has moved from pilots to mass implementations
Connected Finland is a Finnish internet of things company that uses Sigfox technology for wireless, low-power, long-lasting connectivity, that allows connecting great volumes of devices to the network easily and inexpensively. Connected Finland builds, operates and develops the Sigfox network in Finland and Estonia. The company’s network already covers almost 90% of the Finnish population. Currently Sigfox networks are available in 65 countries and Sigfox-enabled devices work seamlessly across all networks around the world. Now the company has reached a new milestone: the number of devices connected to the network exceeded the milestone of 120 000 devices!
In addition to operating a nationwide network, Connected Finland designs and manufactures devices and provides a service platform for utilizing the data. Majority of the company’s growth has generated from indoor air quality measuring; with the company’s devices it is possible to achieve a more comfortable and healthier indoor air and/or reduce the energy consumption of a property. In addition, measuring office utilization rates and asset tracking are increasingly popular. With universal customer needs, Connected Finland has sold solutions in cooperation with its partners in 24 countries around the world.
Furthermore, the company implements development projects for its customers. The largest and most visible example of company’s custom projects are IoT locks for Finnish postal service Posti. The locks are part of Posti’s SmartPost lockers where tens of thousands of locks are already in use by Finnish consumers.
“It’s great to see millions of messages circulating in our network every day. Commercial, large-scale implementations of the internet of things are finally here,” says Markku Patronen, CEO of the company.
Connected Finland had revenues of approximately EUR 2.4 million in 2018 and was profitable. The company expects revenues for 2019 to reach approximately EUR 4 million. It is estimated that at the end of the year there will be about 200,000 devices connected to the network. The company employs a total of 14 people in Finland and Estonia.
